fter the hustle and bustle of autumn, temperatures drop, Nature slows down the pace and we begin to breathe the air of snow.

Despite this, Chianti knows how to give unique emotions even during winter, with unforgettable views of the hills and resting vineyards.

"Christmas makes the atmosphere magical in the squares and streets of the medieval villages, which dress up for the holidays with Christmas trees, nativity scenes and lights. "

In Greve in Chianti, the holiday calendar every year includes traditional markets and concerts in piazza Matteotti, where the big tree is set up to greet Santa Claus.

In the municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga, on the other hand, the Christmas market, Mercat’Unto di Natale, is held in Villa a Sesta, with food and wine stands selling local products and handicrafts and tastings of culinary specialties, an opportunity to find original gifts.

Nativity scenes, however, are one of the true historical traditions in Chianti.

In Panzano in Chianti, the nativity scene is a widespread work, a form of art that enlivens public and private spaces in the village, thanks to local artists and artisans. In San Casciano Val di Pesa not to be missed is the Nativity in the Church of the Propositura and the Nativity scene in the Church of Argiano, thanks to the work of volunteers. In Barberino Tavarnelle, on the other hand, is famous the Nativity Play: a re-enactment of the Nativity performed by over 50 citizen-actors, in period costumes.

Winter in Chianti is also the ideal season to admire the stars at the Chianti Multifunctional Observatory, a public facility of excellence dedicated to research, education and outreach.  The Observatory welcomes the public with events, lectures and guided tours. A unique experience for adults and children.

If, on the other hand, you love trekking, even the coldest season of the year can offer thrills with a hike on Monte San Michele, the highest peak of the Florentine Chianti area, which is often covered in snow: from here you can enjoy extraordinary 360- degree views of the Valdarno and Val di Greve.

Alternatively, you can choose from the many paths of the Chianti Classico Hiking Trail Network, which can be walked even in this period of the year, but please be careful!

Finally, space is given to the flavours and aromas of Chianti: this is the season of the nouveau wine and the new olive oil to be tasted in the osterie and many restaurants of the area.

Even in winter, Chianti amazes and marvels!
